Maggie Turner Van Duyn created the Maggie Card in 2016 following her own Stage IV Metastatic Breast Cancer diagnosis. Shortly after her diagnosis, Maggie was on Church Street in Burlington, VT buying hats for her impending hair loss due to chemotherapy treatment. The store clerk knew Maggie’s story and offered her 50% off each hat she purchased. Feeling incredibly grateful and knowing the financial and emotional toll of cancer, Maggie came up with the idea for an actual “cancer card” that would give all Vermont cancer patients a discount to local businesses. CPSF began administering the Maggie Card program in 2020. Maggie passed away on October 21, 2018, nine days shy of her 39th birthday, leaving behind devastated family, friends and a huge community of followers. Through the Maggie Card, her light continues to shine.
